The number of fatal collisions on Arizona's highways is nearly the same as a year ago.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says it considers this development a victory.

The agency says there have been 221 fatal collisions in Arizona so far this year.

That's compared to the 220 fatal collisions counted in the same period in 2011 and 286 from the same period in 2007.
