Mesa police initiated a two-hour aerial search for a missing 15-year-old boy with Asperger’s syndrome, only to discover the boy was hiding under bushes in his front yard after an argument with a family member.

The boy was reported missing about 11 p.m. Wednesday, and family members were especially concerned because he has the mental capacity of an 8-year old child and has had suicidal tendencies. After police could not find the boy in the house or back yard, they began a search by air and entered the boy into a nationwide database of missing persons.

About two hours later, family members saw the boy crawl out from dense bushes against the front of the house. The boy was still upset from the argument with the step-father and claimed he had been sleeping in the bushes during the search, police said.
