State prosecutors say they’ve obtained an $80,000 consent judgment against a Chandler moving storage company accused of deceiving and defrauding consumers.
Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard announced Monday that Allstar Moving & Storage must pay $33,000 restitution to consumers, $37,000 in civil penalties and $10,000 in investigative costs and attorney fees.
Goddard’s office filed a consumer fraud lawsuit against Allstar in May. The suit claimed the company “misrepresented to consumers that they could pay an advertised flat hourly rate for moving services when additional, undisclosed charges rendered the advertising rate false.”
The suit also alleged that Allstar employees demanded additional cash from customers above the original price and threatened to hold their belongings or drive away if they didn’t pay.
A call to Allstar for comment on the judgment wasn’t immediately returned Monday afternoon.

Allstar Metro Movers, LLC is in no way affiliated with Allstar Moving & Storage, Inc.
In contrast to the company referred to in this article, Allstar Metro Movers, LLC is licensed, insured and has an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau, was a finalist for the 2010 BBB Ethics Award and was voted “Best in Phoenix – Moving Service” in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Throughout our 14 year history we have always taken customer service and business ethics very seriously and we strive to provide the very best of each. We are disgusted by the activity of any moving company that exhibits dishonesty in their dealings with customers.

I have heard some news regarding this moving scam. Many moving companies are not aware of the rules that they must follow when advertising their services. Many people often have their possessions held hostage by crooked movers, some of whom lose thousands along the way. However, brand new guidelines and harsher penalties have been announced by the government to help combat this practice.
