A nurse at a hospital in Mesa is being accused of stealing nearly $700 worth of drugs for his personal use.
According to a police report, 31-year-old Brandon Renner stole 349 doses of morphine, fentanyl, dilaudid, ativan, and demerol from the Mountain Vista Medical Center located at 40 North Center Street in Mesa.
The report states Renner, who is a nurse at the hospital, has been stealing the narcotics from dispensing units throughout the hospital by using his bio-metric and hospital ID cards.
When Renner used his ID card, the system recorded what had been dispensed, and who it had been dispensed to.
Authorities said the the theft was discovered by hospital administrators while conducting an unrelated audit.
Once his actions were discovered, hospital staff denied Renner access to the narcotics dispensing unit. Even though his access was denied, Renner tried five more times to obtain the drugs for his personal use. The report states he was captured on video surveillance trying to access a dispensing unit.
Renner was arrested Thursday at which time he admitted to police he entered the hospital both while working and on vacation with the sole purpose of obtaining narcotic drugs for his personal use and addiction. He admitted to using several different dispensing units to obtain the drugs after using the patient Information center database to determine which patient was using the type of drugs he needed.
The report states when authorities searched Renner's lunchbox, they found 41 partially empty viles of drugs, syringes, and other drug related items.
Renner is being held on suspicion of trying to obtain narcotic drugs illegally, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft.

Read the accusations made against a former nurse Andrea Lublin. Not he many years she was allowed to continue stealing drugs and years after she was confronted and admitted to it. Andrea Lublin was never prosecuted for these years of stealing drugs. The accusations begin in 1997 and it continued until 2006 when the board revoked her license.
