Mesa police supervisor honored

An 11-year veteran with the Mesa Police Department who began working in public safety when she was a teenager has been awarded a high honor in her job.

Laurie Russo, the Mesa Police Department’s communications supervisor, has been named Supervisor of the Year by the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Public Safety and National Emergency Number Association. Every year, communications personnel from around the state are nominated by their agencies based on performance and leadership skills.

Russo began her public safety career as a dispatcher in the Chicago area when she as 19, according to information from the Mesa Police Department.
