Police say a Mesa man was the victim of a Gilbert shooting Sunday afternoon.
Michael Kaftan, 48, died after being shot near downtown Gilbert, police said.

According to a report, Cota and Kaftan knew each other, but police do not know the motive for the shooting at this time.
The incident happened about 3 p.m. Sunday. The police report says Kaftan was sitting in a Dodge Charger with a female passenger talking to Cota, who was on a motorcycle next to them. At some point, Cota shot into Kaftan’s vehicle, which accelerated forward and struck a parked car.
