A 43-year-old San Tan Valley woman accused of leaving the scene of a collision after crashing her vehicle into another one and injuring two men told Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies she continued driving because she wanted to get her special needs niece home.

Michelle Yazzie was arrested on suspicion of an aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an injury collision about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Ocotillo Road and Arbor Lane, minutes after the crash.

Witnesses said they saw Yazzie’s red pick-up truck crash into the side of another vehicle with two men inside, causing cuts to one man’s arms and face and causing glass to enter his left eye, according to information from the sheriff’s office.

While driving through a neighborhood about a mile away, deputies spotted a red pick-up in the driveway of a home in the 41000 block of Arbor Lane and noticed the front of it was damaged. When they stopped, deputies said they found Yazzie inside and smelled alcohol coming from within.

The deputy went inside the home with Yazzie so she could retrieve her driver’s license and to check on her niece, 11, who was uninjured.
