A Gilbert man who stole a Michigan man’s identity and used it for 12 years to gain jobs and buy a vehicle was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on Monday.

Leonal Guerrero, 44, was sentenced for identity theft, misuse of a Social Security number and use of an unauthorized credit card, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Guerrero had used the man’s identity to purchase an SUV from a Valley car dealership in 2004, gain employment with a Tempe construction company and to obtain a credit card, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
