PHOENIX — Authorities say Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies have shot and killed a man who fired an assault weapon during a standoff.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Christopher Hegstrom said the man was shot Sunday evening after authorities said his wife called 911 about a domestic assault. The spouse told dispatchers that her husband had been drinking and weapons were in the home.
Hegstrom said deputies arrived to the scene and heard gunshots.
Following a standoff with a SWAT team, the man came out of the house and began firing rounds with an assault weapon.
Hegstrom said deputies fired back and the suspect, whose name was not released, was killed at the scene.

Wait, what? How many deputies does it take to fire an assault rifle?
