Tempe police arrested two men accused of hitting and robbing a man inside his apartment on Thursday before forcing him to go to an ATM at a nearby convenience store to withdraw cash.

About 5:40 p.m. Thursday, police arrested Austin Jors, 18, and Burton Smith, 20, on suspicion of aggravated assault, kidnapping, burglary, threats and strong arm robbery, soon after police discovered the two suspects walking near University and McClintock drives, according to Tempe police.

The robbery victim, who said he was hit and pushed onto the floor by Jors and Smith, had been expecting roof repair workers to knock on his door. They first took items from his residence before forcing him to go to a local convenience store so he could withdraw money from an ATM, police said.

The two men left the store and the victim told the clerk what happened before the clerk called police.

Police said Jors and Smith admitted to robbing the man and admitted to watching him, thinking he would be an easy target.

Police confiscated cash from Bors and Smith and booked them into the Tempe City Jail.
