Someone tried to steal a Chase bank ATM early Wednesday morning, Gilbert police said.

Police responded to an alarm at 882 S. Greenfield shortly after 4 a.m., police said. There, they found an abandoned utility trailer and tow strap attached to an ATM, which had been damaged in an attempt to pull it from its foundation. The trailer was reported stolen out of Mesa by a Pinal County resident earlier in the night.

The scene was processed for evidence and detectives are still investigating the incident.
