ROOSEVELT LAKE - A suspect wanted for the murder of a man from Eagar, Arizona has been caught, according to The Gila County Sheriff’s Office.
57-year-old Gabriel Jaramillo was located and taken into custody by Gila County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday afternoon.
Sheriff's officials said they got a tip from a local boater that a man who was dirty, and asking for water approached their boat while they were swimming. The boater left the man and called the Sheriff's office to report the incident.
When officers arrived, the boater told police the man could be found on the North side of Roosevelt Lake. Officers were able to find the subject and identified him as Jaramillo.
Jaramillo was taken into custody and flown to the Gila County Sheriff’s and then to a medical center for evaluation. Police said the suspect was complaining of back pain due to falling down a cliff.
Law enforcement officers spent Sunday searching near Roosevelt Lake for the armed homicide suspect who eluded deputies.
The Eagar Police Department said Jaramillo reportedly shot at deputies during a chase from Globe to near Roosevelt Lake, but didn't hit anyone.
Jaramillo was wanted in connection with the disappearance of Steve Long, 47, of Eagar.
Long was reported missing when he didn't show up for work August 21. Long's vehicle was reported stolen.
Police said Jaramillo abandoned the vehicle and fled into the woods at the end of a chase late Saturday.
Deputies and officers from several agencies flooded the area at daybreak Sunday. Helicopters were also sent to the remote area about 100 miles east of Phoenix.
Apache County Attorney Michael Whiting tells the White Mountain Independent that Jaramillo has a lengthy criminal record.
