A Scottsdale man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of identity theft, fraud and forgery.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 43-year-old Gary Benard Lee was indicted in December 2008, convicted last December and sentenced last Friday.
Authorities say Lee bought the victim's Social Security number between April and July of 2008 and then used a fake ID to get housing, employment, credit cards and other services.
They say Lee ran up excessive bills on the credit cards before the victim — an unidentified member of the Air National Guard — noticed a drop in his credit score and discovered the scheme.
U.S. postal inspectors and Scottsdale police executed search warrants on Lee's residence and vehicles and found evidence that led to an arrest.
