A man Mesa police believe was driving under the influence of a drug was trapped in his vehicle about 11:30 p.m. Thursday after striking a streetlight.
Police said the man, identified as Ronald T. Flood, 52, drove into a streetlight at Power Road and Superstition Springs Boulevard. The pole broke onto the road. Police said they found evidence of dangerous drugs and a pistol in the vehicle. Officers later discovered that Flood had several prior felony convictions in Arizona and is a prohibited possessor.
He was taken to a local trauma center for treatment, and is expected to recover.
