A 5-month old infant who was struck by a truck at a Mesa intersection as his aunt pushed him across the street in a stroller, has died.
The child was struck about 2 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Longmore and Pueblo when a woman driving a truck made a left turn and hit the mother and baby, according to police.
The infant was ejected from the stroller after it was struck and overturned, police said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. The boy’s aunt was injured, but is expected to recover, police said.
The driver of the truck was not impaired, and it wasn’t immediately known whether she would be cited.

Yeah it's really an accident but as I analyze this news, it seems that both parties was too careless. The baby's aunt should not be complacent streets, she should be extra careful with that. And the truck driver should be also responsible enough in driving. Truck is different to cars, it will not respond quickly in situations like that. But if the truck owner is responsible enough, there are so many cheap truck accessories that may definitely help the driver to control the truck in a good way if cases like this will occur.

I keep reading the comments on here & I'm not sure who's fault this accident was. I do know the intersection it happened in & that there's been two in last three months. Both coincidentally were with elderly woman driving & I don't know if age played A part in it or not. I do know for the last three years I've walked my child to school & the cars are in A hurry to get somewhere, they don't care to watch & wait when crossing guards are on duty to cross kids or parents. It's a dam shame that these incidents happened, but wake up the victims are the people in cross walks not the drivers! Charges should be pending & people should be aware of the fact that pedestrians have the right of way.
This intersection is going to have more accidents & I pray to God that something gets done before it's our kids. That will be horrific with all the kids that cross that intersection!

I just read that charges might be pending against the driver for hitting the infant. The 18 year old, who was pregnant, should have been more cautious in crossing the street and the driver shouldn't be charged with anything unless they were impaired.
I see these mexicans, which they were in this case, pouring across the street with three babies in tow, two more in a carriage and the mother is pregnant, how the h ell can they actually be paying attention with all that distraction.
I think the 18 year old should be responsible for repairing the damage to the womans car for pusing the stroller in front of the vehicle.

My heart goes out to this family. I'm sorry that this intersection has had the opportunity to bring this tragedy to such an innocent life. This is the second accident at this intersection in less than three months. This is where I watched A school crossing guard get hit not two months prior. Its right by the school my daughter goes to & it's bad, really bad! It seems every day our children are at risk of this happening & the city or school do anything about it! There needs to be something done now before it's more children hurt or worse! I've been saying that they need to put in flashing lights & even cameras up to make these drivers realize they need to pay more attention around here & every where.
This shouldn't have happened!

Shows just how suddenly you can step into eternity. Wonder how many are prepared and know where they will spend eternity?

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your child. You can be a caution as possible and that driver could turn there head for one split second and a your life forever changed. Even picking your child up and carring them you could still get hit and both get hurt. This young lady is also a hard working women, why does everyone always think that people are out to sue. How about just saying your sorry about their loss of their child. Yes she is the victim, she did not ask for this to happen to her family. I pray to God that you never endure the pain of losing a child, because believe me it is very painful.

I once saw a woman in Tempe dragging 5 or 6 children across a street and it appeared she was trying to get one of the children hit. This would be akin to winning the lottery for her so she could sue the driver, city and anything else for a quick buck.
People welcome this kind of tragedy to sue the hard working person and make it seem like they are a victim.

So often I have seen situationally unaware women pushing strollers across intersections. I've wondered why they look so blase and aren't looking around for the distracted driver, drunk driver, or the driver whose blind spot they may be in. I think that such pedestrians may not be drivers themselves, so they don't realize how easy it is to make an error while driving.
When I push my child in the stroller, I'm constantly looking around, especially over my shoulder to see if someone may be making a left-hand turn and could hit us. I trot quickly from one side of the street to the other. And even when I walk through a parking lot with my little one in tow, we always pick her up. We do this, specifically so that we can dart quickly with her if a car should come piling towards us.
