The Tempe Police Department announced on Aug. 15 it has confirmed the remains found in Apache Junction earlier this month are those of missing 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas.

According to a press release, the remains, which were discovered on Aug. 6 by an area homeowner, were identified as Salinas by the Department of Public Safety lab.

Tempe Police spokesperson Sgt. Mike Pooley said approximately 100 people representing 12 agencies, among them the FBI and the Apache Junction Police Department, searched the surrounding area on Aug. 15 to find where the body was placed and for items belonging to Salinas.

“We’re looking for anything,” he said. “Anything that can link us to Adrienne.”

The search continued into Friday with approximately 70 searchers, but the searchers’ efforts were limited both days due to extreme heat. Pooley said on Aug. 16 the department might add an additional day to the search in order to ensure the safety of the searchers.

The search to find Salinas, who was a student at Gateway Community College, began two months ago after she was first reported missing after attending a party. She reportedly called a cab to visit her boyfriend in Scottsdale, but never made it to the cab or to her boyfriend’s residence.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at (480) 350-8311.
