ROOSEVELT LAKE — Law enforcement officers spent Sunday searching near Roosevelt Lake for an armed homicide suspect who eluded Gila County sheriff's deputies.
Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores tells KTAR radio that 57-year-old Gabriel Jaramillo reportedly shot at deputies during a chase from Globe to near Roosevelt Lake but didn't hit anyone.
Jaramillo was wanted in connection with the death of a man found near Big Lake on Friday. He abandoned his vehicle and fled into the woods at the end of a chase late Saturday.
Deputies and officers from several agencies flooded the area at daybreak Sunday. Helicopters have also been sent to the remote area about 100 miles east of Phoenix.
Apache County Attorney Michael Whiting tells the White Mountain Independent that Jaramillo has a lengthy criminal record.
