PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say two former employees of a doughnut chain are in custody for allegedly trying to rob a store in Queen Creek.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say 22-year-old Richard Villalobos and 18-year-old Jerett T. Dowland are being held on suspicion of armed robbery and kidnapping.

They say a passing motorist saw two men inside the Dunkin' Donuts store pointing guns at store workers about 2 a.m. Monday and called police.

Deputies arrived and say they found Villalobos and Dowland in the store holding three employees at gunpoint.

Sheriff's officials say Villalobos was once a shift leader at that store while Dowland was recently let go from a Dunkin' Donuts store in Tempe on suspicion of stealing credit-card numbers.

Authorities say they don't know if either suspect has a lawyer yet.
