Mesa police have made two arrests in connection with ongoing copper thefts that have struck city property.

William Brewer, 27, and Steven Grob, 29, were arrested about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday on suspicion of criminal damage and other theft-related offenses after police discovered them near the 500 block of North Hawes, close to where officers were investigating copper thefts in the area. Police said the two men were found near street lights that were out and had wires torn out of them.

Police said they were able to arrest Brewer right away but Grob led them on a pursuit and hide on a nearby golf course. When they found him, police said, Grob was carrying a backpack full of burglary tools.
