Police say a man arrested for urinating in public caused havoc in a Gilbert police station jail cell last weekend.

According to a Gilbert police report, 20-year-old Tyler Thomas was caught by an officer urinating on a tree in public view around 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

Police say Tyler initially lied about his identity and was arrested for giving false information to an officer, urinating in public and underage consumption of alcohol.

Once at the police station, Tyler allegedly punched the sprinkler head in his cell, breaking it.

The sprinkler turned on and flooded the detention facility until there were about two inches of standing water throughout.

The fire suppression system is being repaired and maintenance is dealing with the flooding, police say.

Thomas will face additional criminal damage charges once the total costs for the cleanup are confirmed.
