Authorities say two men have been shot by federal agents after they apparently tried to run over the officers, and three other suspects are in custody.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was investigating a series of robberies in an undercover operation Thursday and were close to making an arrest in a west Phoenix parking lot when the driver of a vehicle allegedly tried to ram the officers.
ATF officials say the agents fired their weapons at the car's windshield, striking both men in the vehicle.
The two men were taken to a Phoenix hospital but their conditions and identities were not immediately released.
ATF spokesman Tom Mangan says three suspects tried to flee the scene but were arrested. Their names also were not immediately released.
