PHOENIX — A former Mesa apartment complex manager is accused of stealing more than $2,600 in rent checks to buy baby formula.
Mesa police say 23-year-old Alejandra Angulo is being held on suspicion of forgery and theft. She allegedly deposited nine rent checks for the Superstition Vista complex between last November and January.
Police say Angulo had been working at the complex for four years until she quit last December.
The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/QFd9fd) says the investigation began earlier this year after an audit showed several tenants hadn't paid their rent between November and January.
After they received payment demands, the tenants insisted they had paid their rent.
The audit subsequently discovered Angulo allegedly deposited the checks in her personal bank account. She told police she needed the money for baby formula.
