SIERRA VISTA — Cochise County investigators are going over newly uncovered evidence found inside Kartchner Caverns after a break-in occurred last week.

Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carol Capas said deputies also conducted a series of interviews with both Kartchner Caverns State Park personnel and campers in the area.

Capas would not say what evidence was found in the caverns near Benson, but did confirm that it was inside the caverns, similar to previous items found in the initial stages of the investigation.

On Oct. 12, park personnel reported a break-in at the caverns.

A cave scientist with the Arizona State Parks Department said that although the person or people who broke in did damage some straw stalactite formations, the overall damage was minimal.
