The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has pledged its cooperation in an ongoing Title VI investigation by the Department of Justice involving allegations of civil rights and racial profiling by the sheriff’s office during crime sweeps, according to a letter from the its attorney.

On Friday, Bob Driscoll, the Washington D.C.-based attorney for the MCSO, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice following up on a meeting earlier this week confirming the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s willingness to cooperate with a reasonable Title VI investigation.

The MCSO and DOJ officials met on Tuesday to discuss the investigation where the DOJ issued an ultimatum: Cooperate with the investigation or it would sue Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The MCSO has contended that it was seeking clarity in regards to the scope and nature of the investigation.

In an issued statement, Arpaio said, “I remain confident that the Justice Department’s investigation will not find evidence of discrimination by the Sheriff’s Office. I will continue to enforce all laws, including immigration laws, while any investigation continues.”
