The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is sponsoring a series of events in August and September to promote document shredding as a means of fighting identity theft.
The “Shred-A-Thons,” in partnership with the Shred-it Company, will allow members of the public to shred two full file boxes or bags of their personal and financial information at no cost.
“I want to work with the community to prevent these crimes from happening in the first place,” County Attorney Rick Romley said in a statement. “One of the most effective ways to do that is to ensure that your personal identifying and other sensitive information is destroyed.”
The first event is 6 to 10 a.m. Wednesday in the golf club parking lot at the Iron Oaks Country Club, 24218 S. Oakwood Blvd., Sun Lakes. Others will follow 6 to 10 a.m. Sept. 2 at the Red Mountain Multigeneration Center, 7550 E. Adobe, Mesa, and 6 to 10 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Scottsdale Police Department’s McKellips substation, 7601 E. McKellips Rd.
