A pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a vehicle near a Tempe intersection on Monday.
The pedestrian, John Larson, 62, of Cambridge, Minn., was struck by a Jeep Liberty driven by a Pedro C. Ruiz, 23, of Phoenix, about 6:45 a.m. near Hardy and Oxford, according to police. Ruiz was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after hitting a block wall.
Investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision and Ruiz will be booked into Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of one count of second-degree murder after receiving treatment for the injuries he sustained in the collision.
