A man who Mesa police say tried to bite the arm of one of the officers trying to apprehend him on Saturday is facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and other disorderly conduct-related charges
Jorge Leyva, 35, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, was also arrested on suspicion of trespassing, two counts of criminal damage and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to the incident, according to police.
Police responded to a report of a man yelling at a party in the 1100 block of 6th Avenue about 4:30 p.m., and after officers arrived, they tried to subdue Leyva who resisted arrest and starting fighting the officers.
After Leyva tired to bite one of the officers several times, one of the other arriving officers activated his Taser on him. He later was transported to a local hospital.
