A Tempe man has been arrested in the stabbing death of Scottsdale nightclub bouncer who was a former Arizona State football player.

Scottsdale police say 26-year-old Ian MacDonald is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder. He was arraigned on the charge Thursday.

Investigators say the 27-year-old Tyrice Thompson was stabbed five times in the back, hip, and arm after an early-morning altercation inside Martini Ranch on Jan. 27.

Police say Thompson, of Laveen, died Saturday from the stab wounds.

They say MacDonald admitted being involved in the fight but denied stabbing Thompson.

MacDonald doesn't have an attorney yet.

Thompson played tight end and receiver for the Sun Devils from 2003-07. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts, but didn't play in an NFL game.
