The Chandler Unified School District is looking at possibly repurposing Knox Elementary School. The district may look at creating a self-contained gifted school or developing some niche classes such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) or arts classes.
The discussions are taking place now. A public meeting was held earlier this month. The governing board could hear a report on community input sometime in April.
The board is already looking at converting Erie Elementary School in two years.
While there is enrollment growth in the southern part of the district, Chandler’s northern schools continue to see declines. Both Erie and Knox were identified as possible schools for redevelopment late last year.
