The Chandler Police Department is investigating the cause of a two-vehicle accident that has left at least one person dead.
Department spokesperson Joe Favazzo wrote in a press release the incident occurred on McQueen and Ray roads at approximately 11:12 p.m. on June 13, when a Toyota minivan and a Chevrolet truck with a loaded landscape trailer collided. The minivan was traveling northbound on McQueen Road at Ray Road, while the truck was driving eastbound on Ray Road at McQueen Road.
Of the 11 people involved in the accident, the unidentified 49-year-old man driving the truck was deceased at the scene, and a second victim was transported by helicopter to a hospital. Two additional passengers in the minivan sustained minor injuries, while the rest, including a 6-year-old boy, were not uninjured.
As of June 14, Favazzo said the department thinks impairment might be a factor with the driver of the truck; investigators do not believe the driver of the minivan was impaired during the incident.
