The hunt for Raul Lujan began about 6 a.m. Wednesday, when police say he forced his way into a Chandler dentist’s office, sexually assaulted an employee and robbed her.

Detectives spent the day searching, and by 5 p.m. Mesa police found Lujan threatening to jump off a Mesa hotel balcony.

Mesa police chased Lujan to the hotel after a man tried to rob a nearby Payless Shoe Source store.

The 27-year-old Chandler man was on the balcony at the Fairfield Inn, 1405 S. Westwood, for nearly two hours. He surrendered and Chandler detectives arrested him on suspicion of armed robbery, kidnapping and sexual assault, said detective Rob Krautheim.

The employee of Red Rock Family Dentistry, 908 W. Chandler Blvd., said her attacker threatened to use a gun but never showed one.
