Chandler's free Hispanic Heritage Celebration, featuring music and other performances, is scheduled for Sept. 19 in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park downtown.

Entertainment will include a free evening performance of James Garcia's "Por Amor," a romantic comedy about love, fame, greed and behind-the-scenes treachery in the world of touring theater. In addition, visitors can enjoy mariachi music, open dance and Flamenco del Sol dancers.

The festival will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the park on the west side of Arizona Avenue, just south of Chandler Boulevard. City officials budgeted up to $5,000 to help fund the event, said Jane Poston, Chandler spokeswoman.

The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is produced by Xico, one of the oldest ethnic nonprofit heritage organizations in the state, located in downtown Chandler. The group's mission is to promote indigenous arts and culture through community-based arts programs.
