The Boy Scouts of America has lost one of its biggest corporate donors.
Earlier in September, Eagle Scout Zach Wahls launched a campaign urging Intel to pull funding from the Boy Scouts. It came following a report that revealed the company gave nearly $700,000 in volunteer matching grants to the Boy Scouts in 2010.
The campaign was based upon the Boy Scouts policy that bans openly gay members.
In a statement, Intel said the decision to not fund the Boy Scouts was made based upon "new rigor that requires any organization to confirm that it adheres to Intel’s anti-discrimination policy in order to receive funding."
While confirming the change, Intel said it was not a direct result of Wahl's campaign, and instead as a result of policy changes made earlier in the year.
"Intel made the right decision here, in order to live up to their corporate values of diversity, equality and individual liberty," said Wahls. "Companies that support the LGBT community simply can't be in the business of funding organizations that discriminate.
Intel is one of the largest employers in the Valley.

So, are they going to pull funding from themselves, since they are now discriminating against the BSA?? Corporations need to stay out of politics. [huh]

Besides, I like AMD processors better - at least they are honestly trying to make it in the world of computers, unlike Intel which engages in illegal activities to try and keep the competition out. [beam]

Wakko, if corporations stayed out of politics they would never have given the scouts $700,000 in 2010. Lots of organizations rely heavily on corporate support.
Kudos to Intel for taking a stand.

I think Intel should be ashamed of their actions. The B.S.A. have ALWAYS been for the good of the young men that they have worked with. To rid their ranks of perverts should in no way be a reason to pull the funds by Intell. After all the name of the organization is The Boy Scouts of America NOT The Boy and Pervert Scouts of America. Many Presidents and leaders have been raised up with the dedication, ideals and princables taught by the B.S.A. With the removal of the Perverts as leaders from this organization it insures that the young men of America and their family's will not have to worry about having their children being molested by either leaders or fellow Scouts.
Why doesn't Intell start another organization that deals with ONLY the gay/perverts as both leaders and their followers. This way everyone will be happy.
JMJ posted at 11:52 pm on Sun, Sep 23, 2012.
LOL. Oops, too salty? Sorry. Not.
Intel has every right to pull its corporate sponsorship of BSA citing its policy of nondiscrimination. Just like "Chick-Fil-A" [the PC version of my own version...LOL...which was pulled offline] pushed its agenda into America's face on August 1, Intel can withhold support for those who would discriminate against gay scout leaders and young, gay boy scouts, who may not have yet figured out or come to terms with their own orientation. To be indoctrinated in an organization which marginalizes a large demographic of Americans, and then to find out one may be hated by the BSA just for "being", is a disservice to many Americans who are outstanding citizens and contributing members of society.
Intel deserves a huge pat on the back for taking a stand and refusing to fund outright discrimination.
Corporations, such as Chick-Fil-A and Intel have exercised their muscles to take a stand--but Intel is correct in its stand not to discriminate. If Chick-Fil-A is proud of its outright discriminatory policies, shame on them. I know I will never spend another penny at Chick-Fil-A.

Speaking as an Eagle Scout/Scout Master and having been a member of the BSA for over 20 years, let me just weigh in on this topic.
bfgair, you're an idiot. You stated numerous times that the BSA banning gay people is preventing "perverts" from being among their ranks to molest the children. This is a completely illogical statement. You are aware that the words "gay" and "pedophile" have entirely different definitions, right?
Just because someone finds members of the same sex attractive does not increase their likelihood of assaulting a child. In fact, there are several cases of married, straight men having sexually abused children of both sexes.
A gay man is a gay man. A straight man is a straight man. Not all pedophiles are gay, not all gays are pedophiles. Not all pedophiles are straight, not all straights are pedophiles. Get your head out of your @ss and try living in the present with the rest of us, a time when reason SHOULD prevail over ignorance and archaic thinking.
It is my hope that some day people as a whole will finally realize that stereotyping makes you look ignorant and holds us back from progressing as a species.

@bfgair.. your comment "To rid their ranks of perverts " is so incredibly uneducated!!
How can you, with any amount of maturity, make a statement like that??
@patentlawyer... I am just speechless at your comment, just proving yourself to be
the one lacking of morales. Do you even know the definition of the word?
@faustino... Well said!!!

nl4me...how dare you judge my morals without even knowing me. This is the typical knee-jerk reaction of people who want to engage in a social debate, but lack the logic and/or mental capacity to do such. Please engage me again when you have a better argument than the definition of a word because these types of arguments frankly bore me.

@fae4now - What does donating money have to do with politics?? Are you saying that Intel only donated the money because it was politically expedient for them to do so?? What does that say about the company?? Charitable giving should be done regardless of any political advantage you might gain from it.
DrJCA1 posted at 1:49 pm on Mon, Sep 24, 2012.
I would love to see any subject and comments on that subject not mixing up ethics and common sense. Ethically speaking, we all should not discriminate based on easily "seen" things like race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, weight, and age for examples.
However, the reality is that people DO discriminate, whether consciously or not. We all have our likes, dislikes, fears, attractions, and disgusts. That's what makes us human.
Now for this issue. When you bring elements of a different nature into an established group, like the BSA, GSA, or the armed forces, you "upset the apple cart" for quite a while and sometimes it goes badly for many years. As a combat medic in Viet Nam and a 13 year veteran with the army, I did not like the mixing of males and females one bit. I knew darn well what would happen and with the growing numbers of assaults and rapes, it is becomming a serious problem. In regular times and places, we all have some semblance of privacy and normalcy. In the military you do not. Troops shower, toilet, and live together. Often it is in a very hazardous place and life expectancy is unknown, so troops do things they would not normally do - good and bad. Same thing for single sex groups like scouts. Out in the woods there's little privacy and often sparse supervision by adults. That's why we don't mix boy scouts and girl scouts on field trips. Similar problems can and will erupt if those of homosexual behavior are encouraged to join in on the fun.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing, or sexual misconduct should ever be tolerated. I am saying that things will happen and are happening when societal norms are pushed and pulled out of shape. When we try to give everyone an equal chance at everything, we will have far more problems than we eve thought possible. I have no problems with homosexuals, people of any race or age group, or any group of people who might be different than me. I do have concerns about putting gay young men into siutations where they are alone with other young men in very unprivate settings. Same feeling for mixing of the sexes in these situations Tread lightly, those of you on the far left.
JMJ posted at 4:23 pm on Mon, Sep 24, 2012.
So, the "far left", as defined by anyone who is conservative and not more free-thinking is to be "left out"? Sorry, but the far right is far wrong.
Everyone blathering in here, today, knows that gay boy scouts already exist, as do gay girl scouts, as do gay scout leaders. It's another dDon't ask, don't tell" situation. I would dare say some members of either organization, BSA or GSA, are boy scouts or girl scouts because their parents promote BSA or GSA [as I did as a parent] because of no ulterior motive other than to develop good citizenship and self-confidence. Had this anti-gay agenda been revealed at the time my kids were involved in these organizations, I may have chosen not to allow them to participate because of the discriminatory nature of them.
Morally straight has nothing to do with being gay--hard to believe, I am sure, for those of you out there who take "straight" to mean "non-gay". There are morally straight gay people. I know that flies in the face of what those of you who espouse the "you have to be just like me to be considered a citizen or have the same rights as I do" train of thinking.
I am disgusted by the comments that would take away people's rights because those of you without peripheral vision due to your blinders can't see anywhere but "straight" in front of you.
BSA is not a federally-funded group. If corporations decide to "defund" contributions because corporations do not want to support bigotry and discrimination, that is their perogative. Now, all of you run to Chick-Fil-A and talk it over, and give your money to that organization which celebrated a day of national bigotry and hatred on August 1st.
Intel has my total respect, and those of you buying other products will not be missed, just like a certain restaurant could care less if I don't eat their chicken.
To the Vietnam Vet, you had gays in the military with you, hate to tell you. Do you really care who had your back, as long as another American soldier was there for you? And, please, don't turn that into another sick joke.
Some day, if one of your own kids or grandkids or nieces or nephews come out to you, make sure you tell them how much they are hated...by YOU.

Saying you stand for traditional marriage as did the CEO of Chick-Fil-A is A LOT different than pulling $700,000 dollars from a children's organization! It's wrong everyone knows it's wrong! All you people want to do is make it gay vs not gay. Intel is an embarrassment for doing so and will feel a back lash for messing with children.
I bet that in a week you will see them change their minds.
