Police say a man was shot in an officer-involved shooting in Chandler Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. on Frye Road between Alma School and Dobson Roads.

According to police spokesman Joseph Favazzo, shortly after 8 p.m. officers received a call of a disturbance involving a man at a Chandler hospital.

A responding officer saw a man matching the suspect's description walking along Frye Road.

Favazzo said the officer stopped in the middle of Frye Road to try and talk to the man. The man immediately shot at the officer and the officer returned fire hitting the suspect.

Authorities said the officer was not injured. The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the officer is on paid administrative leave per police policy.

The officer and suspect have not been identified at this time.
