There are some mighty fine readers in Chandler.

Sixth-graders from Riggs, Sanborn, and St. John Bosco schools represented Chandler in the Battle of the Books Regional Championship in Mesa late last month.

The three-person teams from Riggs and St. John Bosco won two of the top three spots in the competition against students from Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Mesa, Queen Creek, and Combs schools.

In Chandler, a total of 1,089 students from 32 schools competed in the 2012 Battle of the Books, where students were assigned books, and then asked detailed questions about what they read.

The first place team for the 2012 Battle of the Books was Mesa’s Highland Elementary School.
