What do a slow tortoise, slick snake and lazy lizard have in common? They all lived in the Valley before we did.
During the Reptile Round-up early next year, children can learn more about these desert dwellers as neighbors during an entertaining and educational wildlife presentation at Chandler's Environmental Education Center.
Philip Rakoci, a naturalist and humorist who is known as Wildman Phil, will teach children about animal defenses, life cycles, and respect for wildlife and the environment.
The presentations are 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. to noon, Jan. 5, with a registration fee of $6 for Chandler residents and $9 for non-residents. Children under age 2 are admitted free with a paid adult. Space is limited.
The Environmental Education Center is located at Veterans Oasis Park, on the northeast corner of Lindsay and Chandler Heights roads. Register online at www.chandleraz.gov/breaktime or in person.
