A former Chandler police lieutenant who retired after a reported affair with a civilian co-worker has voluntarily surrendered his certification.
Shawn Hawkins had been accused of engaging in sexual activity numerous times with the woman while on duty in various locations around the Chandler Police Department starting in November 2008.
The 43-year-old Hawkins also was accused of harassing the co-worker with threatening text messages after he became jealous about her flirting in bars.
The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board on Wednesday night accepted a consent decree in which Hawkins relinquished his license. The 20-year police veteran retired in February with his pension intact.

This monkey business has taken much time, effort, and money.
I don't care if these cops were chasing girls, and the girls was walking slow...
How about investigating cops that lie in Court, and use their public authority to enforce laws unfairly against people they don't like?
I would imagine giving polygraph test to Police Officers would have a high failure rate.
Why not have an independent company do it at random, no matter the rank, for a two year period and look at the results?
If we are going to waste resources, let's do it on something constructive.
What's the end result of this?
He gets his pension, and probably will find a job somewhere else in government.

For shame. Another Chandler police officer brings shame and embarrassment to our city. That whole department needs to be cleaned out.
