The Chandler Police Department is hosting an open house at its headquarters on Saturday, and officers are requesting residents bring canned goods or non-perishable items to help those in need.
The open house, which is free and open to the public, will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the department's headquarters, 250 E. Chicago St., and is scheduled to begin after the Ostrich Festival Parade.
The event will include a classic car show, bike rodeo, demonstrations by canine officers and officers on hand to answer questions. VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) etching will also be available during the open house.
Officers are hoping for a large turnout for the canned food drive so items can be donated to the Salvation Army as it is experiencing a post-holidays downturn in food donations coupled with a slow economy and high gasoline prices.
