Elementary schools in the Chandler Unified School District will soon have security cameras. The governing board voted 2-1 on three contracts totalling $1.3 million to put a 12-camera system at each of the 29 K-6 schools. Two board members were out of town Wednesday, but there was a quorum with the three other members. Board members Bob Rice and Annette Auxier approved the measure. Board member David Evans voted against it.
Chandler residents approved financing the cameras as part of the November 2010 bond vote.
Chandler’s junior high and high schools already have cameras, spokesman Terry Locke said.

I agree. That would have bought about 37 teachers at a 35k salary. I want to know...what are they for? Security from vandals? Or to catch the kids doing bad things that never seem to get caught? Or to make sure teachers are doing their job right? (which I don't agree with, at all!) Or what? This article doesn't tell very much of the story. Chandler residents want to know.

Oh goodie....now security guards can watch students pick their noses, pass notes, and throw erasers.

I thought the school districts were broke. How many teachers lost their jobs for those cameras?
