The sixth suspect accused of being involved in a staged marijuana sale gone bad that resulted in the death of undercover Chandler police Detective Carlos Ledesma has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.
Christopher Paul Gonzales, 33, was released from the hospital on Friday and arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon during a drug transaction and possession of marijuana for sale, according to Phoenix police.
Gonzalez was among six men suspected in a deal for $250,000 worth of marijuana undercover Chandler narcotics officers were staging for sale at a south Phoenix home in the 2300 block of West Maldonado Road on July 28. Ledesma, 34, was shot and later pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Gonzalez is being held in a Maricopa County jail on $3 million bond.
Two other undercover Chandler officers were shot and injured and two suspects were shot and killed during the crime.
