After more than 10 years of multi-phase construction, the City of Chandler will officially dedicate the completed Paseo Trail in a ceremony at 9:45 a.m. April 2 at Tibshraeny Family Park, 270 N. Cottonwood St. The event is in conjunction with the Chandler Family Bike Ride, which begins at 9 a.m. at Tumbleweed Park.
The Paseo Trail is a 10-foot-wide concrete multi-use pathway on the eastern side of the Consolidated Canal in east Chandler. The western side of the canal is an unimproved dirt surface that can be used for horseback riding or bicycling. The trail is located just north of Chandler Boulevard at Galveston Street and extends south approximately 6.5 miles to Riggs Road. Construction began in the summer 2001 and the first phase opened to the public that fall.
The project was coordinated with the Arizona Department of Transportation and completed at a cost of $4,077,958, with 61 percent of the cost paid for with federal funds. For more information, visit www.chandleraz.gov/parks.

"at a cost of $4,077,958, with 61 percent of the cost paid for with federal funds." I'll be watching for responses from my Tea Party and Neo-con brothers. Ready, set, GO!
