The Chandler Police Department’s Volunteers in Policing Services program is seeking volunteers to become part of the Motorist Assist Volunteer team.

Volunteers will respond to stranded motorists and assist officers at collision scenes. Motorist Assist Volunteers will respond to parking violations, assist with vehicle lockouts and patrol the neighborhoods of Chandler.

Applicants are required to complete a five week academy that begins on March 31. The classes run on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Department’s Chandler Heights Substation. Volunteers will receive 50 hours of hands-on field training before graduating on May 7.

The program is recognized as an effective liaison in dealing with the community policing effort. More than 60 volunteers dedicated 12,000 hours to the citizens of Chandler in 2013.

Those who are interested in becoming a volunteer must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Arizona drivers’ license and complete a background investigation.
