After years of requests, walkers and runners along the Paseo Trail in Chandler will soon get what they sought.
Thanks to a $15,000 Great American Trails Grant, the city will install mile markers along the 6.5-mile multi-use path that follows the Salt River Project Consolidated Canal from Galveston Street to Riggs Road.
“We heard from the citizens and this was a frequent request over the years,” said Mickey Ohland, Chandler park development and operations manager.
Installation of the 29 markers will begin in the next month, Ohland said.
The city estimates on an average day 100 people use the trail, which received a $3.8 million upgrade two years ago. Last year, traffic signs were installed where the trail crosses congested streets.
The National Recreation and Parks Association coordinates the Great American Trails grants. Funding is provided by the Darden Foundation.
