All Jews are welcome to attend a Kever Avot service led by Rabbi Irwin Wiener of Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 2 at Valley of the Sun Cemetery on Chandler Heights Road in Sun Lakes.
The tradition of Kever Avot, translated as "grave of the fathers," is the practice of visiting the graves of close relatives to pray for their souls and to ask God to help the living on behalf of the deeds of the departed, according to a news release. It's also an opportunity to bring unwanted religious items, such as prayer books, shawls, and scrolls, to be buried in the consecrated Jewish section of the cemetery.
Kever Avot is observed every year during the High Holiday season. Information: Call SaraRuth at (480) 883-1791.
