EVT on your TV? Could be, thanks to a new partnership between the East Valley Tribune and Valley television media stalwart ABC15.

On the heels of the development of the Tribune’s first mobile smartphone app — bringing community- and region-specific news to Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe and the entire East Valley — this latest venture allows the Tribune to offer more news, more often, to its fill of dedicated print and online readers.

1013 Communications Arizona is the Tribune’s parent company. In addition to the new relationship between the Tribune and ABC15, other 1013 media outlets, including the Ahwatukee Foothills News, Daily News-Sun, Glendale-Peoria Today, and Surprise Today, are poised to play significant roles as the collaboration evolves.

To Terry Horne, publisher of the Tribune and general manager of 1013, the move is a no-brainer.

For one, the Tribune’s loyal print, online and mobile readers will have access to much more content, including ABC15-produced video, breaking news, authoritative weather coverage, drive-time traffic updates and more.

Similarly, viewers and online followers of ABC15 will be treated to a greater selection of locally-produced news and information, including features from Tribune brands like GetOut (things-to-do, arts and entertainment), VarsityXtra (high school sports) and Nerdvana (pop-culture, sci-fi, high-tech, and all-things-geek).

“This venture will allow the Tribune and ABC15 to better serve our audiences, both in the East Valley and across the Phoenix region,” Horne said.

As Horne puts it, the Tribune and 1013’s other outlets have found a counterpart that shares in their vision of enhancing the way Valley residents receive information and communicate with each other.

“The partnership improves our positions as the region’s premier information sources,” Horne added. “We think ABC15 is a perfect match for how we see ourselves doing business and serving that audience.”

While cross promotion and content-sharing between the Tribune and ABC15’s well-received television newscasts will be included, a focus on digital collaboration is at the core — namely through ABC15.com and EastValleyTribune.com (in addition to sibling sites Ahwatukee.com and YourWestValley.com).

The partnership begins immediately, with both sites sharing content through various means. The Tribune’s online home already includes 24-hour dedicated news feeds from partners like the Associated Press and FoxSportsArizona.com, with ABC15 on board beginning to flow this week.

Future developments in the partnership will include featuring coverage from ABC15’s award-winning weather team within the pages of the Tribune and online. Live and packaged video and drive-time traffic updates are on tap as well.

“It’s exciting to partner with a news organization that believes in the same core values that we do at ABC15,” said Anita Helt, vice president and general manager at ABC15. “Building relationships is one of the best ways to make Arizona a better place to live.”

So it EVT joining in the liberal/progressive love fest? Will EVT become a bastion of liberal/progressive thought much like most of the Main Stream Media?

    We can only hope so.

Arizona could use a liberal voice to try to counter-balance the rabid right wing media that dominates now.
