Bond has been set at $1 million for the driver of a dump truck that slammed into a group of motorcycles stopped at a red light in north Phoenix.
Phoenix police arrested 46-year-old Michael Jakscht Tuesday. He was booked into jail on four counts of manslaughter and five counts of aggravated assault and seven counts of endangerment.
Police say initial toxicology tests show that Jakscht had methamphetamine in his system on the afternoon of March 25 when his truck rear-ended eight motorcycles, killing three men and one woman. Five other riders were injured, at least one severely.
Police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump says officers with the police major crime bureau had Jakscht under surveillance at his Scottsdale home on Tuesday and followed him as he drove away. They stopped him when they saw signs that he was driving while impaired.
