A high pollution advisory has been issued for Wednesday by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. The advisory is being issued for PM-10, particulate matter measuring 10 microns or less, due to expected gusty winds. Children and adults susceptible to respiratory illness are advised to limit time outdoors.
“No burn day” restrictions are also in place from the Maricopa County Air Quality Department through midnight Wednesday. Residents and businesses must refrain from burning wood in fireplaces, woodstoves or outdoor fire pits. In addition, off-highway vehicles are prohibited from being used.
Particulate matter is created from combustion from cars and woodburning or when dust is stirred up by winds.
