The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Maricopa and Pinal counties.
“A watch means that it’s capable of development thunderstorms with tornadoes,” said Leslie Wanek, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. “A warning would mean that there’s actually a tornado or it’s imminent – it means it’s just about to occur.”
Mike Paddock, also a meteorologist, said people need to take action only in the event of a warning.
“You go into an interior room … or lay down in a bathtub, especially if its like a cast iron (tub),” said meteorologist Mike Paddock.
He added that it’s more effective to use a mattress as a cover.
