Customers looked pleased and employees said they felt a sense of accomplishment during the grand opening celebration at Scottsdale’s new main post office Friday.

“This facility is just so much better for our customers,” said Scottsdale postmaster Jeffrey Day.

The event put a more official stamp to the new main post office, 1776 N. Scottsdale Road, which had been open since Sept. 27.

The location is a refurbished building that once housed Breuners furniture store. At the post office’s old location on Osborn Road just east of Scottsdale Road, crews worked Friday to demolish the building to make way for expansion of Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn.

“It’s truly a win-win situation for the post office and Scottsdale Osborn hospital,” Day said. “It gives more space for the hospital.”

There are now two facilities under one roof and more parking. A customer-friendly feature is 24-hour access to two automated self-service kiosks where postal customers can purchase stamps and weigh and mail a package using a credit or debit card.

Day said the office has a better design and said the new post office “couldn’t have come together without the great staff.”

Julie Utley, a U.S. Postal Service employee, said the office is “uplifting when you come in.”

Utley described it as fresh and more efficient.

Postal customer Tom Hill said the location and building “serves the citizens of Scottsdale a lot better.”
