An early morning fire at a north Scottsdale elementary school damaged some playground equipment and an awning covering it.

The fire, believed to be intentionally set, started at 4:59 a.m. today at Copper Ridge Elementary School, 10101 N. Thompson Peak Pkwy., damaging a large playground set with a slide, said Dave Cieslak, spokesman for the Scottsdale Fire Department.

The fire spread to the playground set after 15 garbage containers were set on fire.

About 20 firefighters responded to the fire, and no one was injured, according to Cieslak. The Scottsdale Unified School District is on fall break. No school buildings were affected.

Anyone with information should call the Scottsdale Police Department at (480) 312-5000.
